Rick Rogers of Knoxville will carry a 149 series point lead into the event as he leads Tommy Kerr of Maryville, who has just come off an unprecedented three straight series wins. Brown brings home the big prize

By:Michael Nuchols

August 16th- Man what a strong field of cars that showed for the 2nd annual $1,000 to win Pure Mini race. It was a who's who of local pure mini racing, with all of our weekly hot shoe's plus some great out of town talent. Dustin Cansler would get the top qualifying spot and the pole for the six car dash. But cansler would get into a wreck early in the dash making him start 6th in the feature event. Wayne Lewis would capture the dash win. The starts of the race would see 6 to 7 cars running nose to tail with Spunky Brown out front on a very fast pace. Andrew Green and Dustin Cansler were on the charge early in the race with most of the front runners fading in the middle of the race. Green and Cansler would get to Brown and put very hard pressure on his bumper but he would never fade holding on to take his first win the Mountain Raceway for a cool $800 due to him not being in the top 15 in points at the Mountain Raceway. Mark Vineyard wold capture his third win of the season extending his points lead.  Vineyard would never get challenged by second place Roger Best, Best was driving hard trying to get to him but no luck.Mike Weeks took third after setting fast time and being moved back one row after several false starts.   Sportsman action would see the front row set the same as last week with the last years champ Mark Rosner on pole and young gun Jake Teague outside of him. This weeks it would turn out different Rosner getting the jump over Teague. Rosner would go on to check out from the rest of the pack. Teague would lose the handle on his ride allowing Brandon Williams and Jason Cardwell to put pressure on him and getting by him for second and third place. Mod. mini race was going smooth and seemed that Tommy Newton would get this first win of the season. And early caution would take out second place points Jacob White who was up front battling hard with several others for a top 5 position. Newton would fall aside with trouble handing the lead over to Jason Carter who would go on to capture another win on the season. Points leader Kendall White was caught up into a wreck late in the race making the battle for the points championship very close. Shawn Henry second and Roy Smith round out the top 3. Buddy Know thought he was going to get the spin and win last night but once again it was Steve Jones getting his forth crate late model win of the year. Knox second and Hunter Best third. In street stock action David Price has been absent from victory lane most of the season but last night he changed that by getting his second win on the year. Todd Merriman was putting good pressure on Price while having to look over his shoulder for a hard charging Larry Rudd and Jr. Henry. The race for the top 5 was toss up in many drivers swapping spots the whole race. Merriman would spin on the last lap in turn 4 giving the second place to Larry Rudd and Jr. Henry getting third. Mini stock class seen more of the same as Brain Courtney had to skip hot laps making him stat from the rear but it would not take long for him to make it tot he lead passing Rick King and taking another win this year.  Please visit our track photographers Michael Nuchols site for photos from the weekend. www.pbase.com/3wheelinracingphotos

Don't forget the Mountain Raceway will be taking a week off to allow everyone to get there equipment repaired and enjoy the Bristol races. We will be back to racing August 30th with the Mountain Moonshine $3,000 to win race.
